The uproar that's occurring in the print media about the federal government's wanting personal data on all men between the ages of 16 and 20-something. No one seems to recall the Selective Service requirement for all men at 18-25 yrs. old to register with the Selective Service already. The penalties for failing to register are very daunting-$250,000 fine possible. Also, failure to register means that one cannot receive Pell Grants, federally sponsored education loans, citizenship, and many other programs that I wonder if anyone is monitoring for registrations by applicants.
A useful web site is: http://www.sss.gov/what.htm
The scary thing to me is that this system is being staffed, regulations and legislation are ongoing and no one has brought this up in the media. I'm sure that the registration requirement is only honored in the breach, so to speak.
